NOV. 11 - SIXTH ANNUAL ROAD RALLY!!

 

What:  6^th Annual PBCA Road Rally!

 

Where:  Start-Finish - Lakeside Galley and Tavern, ½ mile west of Blue Angels Parkway on HWY 98 (about 5 miles East of Lillian, AL) - Lakeside will open exclusively for us.

 

When:  Sunday Nov. 11.  Register 12:30 – 1:30.  No entry fee. 

 

Description:  Planned tour (rally) over open, unobstructed Less Traveled Roads – about 65 miles.  Detailed course questionnaire (Optional - A navigator helps).  Awards based on questionnaire and drawing entry numbers.

 

Who:  All British car clubs – Panhandle Cruisers and Sonnenschein (Sunshine) Porsche Club designated it as their Official November Event.  All other clubs welcome.

Event of the Month!

Sept. 8 – Flying and Eating at Chumuckla International Airport!   Dick and Mitzi Maddux again graciously hosted about 35 PBCAers in their airplane hanger (this year, air conditioned!) at the picturesque grass-strip airport at Chumuckla, Florida.  Yes, Chumuckla is the correct spelling.  Mitzi and Dick had some great food catered in and members brought desserts to the Maddux Hanger Party. 

 

Dick, a retired airline captain, arranged for everybody to fly in a BREEZEE, an aircraft that only photos could describe!   The BREEZEE, a handmade airplane, is owned by Chip Maypoles, from an adjacent hanger.  Chip is the son of the “Flying Mayor”, Byrd Maypoles, the famous, former mayor of Milton, FL.  Dick helped strap everyone into the second seat and away they flew!  Chip had to refuel three times during the afternoon.

Pea Ridge, FL Display

PBCA members participated August 18, in the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, display of British Cars and other vehicles.  We pretty much dominated the display with eight British cars on the field along with one lone Buick and a Harley.  The following PBCAers turned out for the day: Keith and Beth Sanders brought Keith's '69 MGC and Beth's "Betty Boop" MGB; Curt and Midge Derby, '53 MGTD; Richard Lewis had both the '77 TR & and his '74 TR6; Rich and Darla Willows, '58 Austin Healey 100-6; Ralph and Peggy Overly, '69 MGC GT; and Tom Schmitz rounded out the field with his recently acquired '72 MGB GT.  John Dewey stopped by sans car.

Hiawassee, GA, MG GOF

Four PBCA members attended the MG GOF in the Hiawassee, GA mountains September 6-9.  They participated in several mountain tours in Tom and Jeanne Schmitz's MG TF and Keith and Beth Sanders' MGC. In the Saturday show, Tom took a First Place Trophy in the TF Class and Keith got a Second in the MGC Class.  Beside the GOF events, Tom and Jeanne panned for rubies and sapphires at the Mason Mine north of Franklin, TN, and went “rockhounding” in the area well known for the hobby.  Following the show they joined Keith and Beth to travel on north to the Sanders' new property near Abington, VA.  Keith and Beth will be moving in October to establish a Bed and Breakfast where they hope to cater to car club and motorcycle groups among other mountain adventurers.

Joint British Clubs' Cheese Farm Tour

Three area clubs, PBCA, Mardi Gras MGs, the South Alabama British Car Club, and Pensacola Austin-Healey Club met on September 15th for a tour that started at the Sweet Home Cheese Farm in Elberta, AL.  The tour was a Mardi Gras MGs event and MgMg invited the other clubs.  After sampling and purchasing a good quantity of home made cheeses, the group moved on the Pirates Cove for lunch and lounging on the deck. Among the group of approximately 30 LBC lovers were PBCA members, Bob and Margaret Henson, '93 XJS; Mickey and Kay Kay, '67 MGB.  Rich and Darla Willows, '58 Healey 100-6 and Fred Beinke with his son in law, Ron Tapper, drove the '80 MGB.  Ron and Julie, Fred's daughter, with be taking over the controls of the MG and joining PBCA soon....Welcome!   Richard Cunningham joined Mike Darby in Mike's '67 Jag 240; and Keith and Beth Sanders drove the '69 MGC.  Ralph and Peggy Overly drove their MGC GT.  Ralph came out to the cheese shop gasping for water after sampling the Habanera Cheese.  Tom Schmitz, who drove his '68 Morgan, didn't find the "hot pepper" cheese that hot and took a pound home.

                             Classes: one for 4-cylinder cars and one for 6/8/12-cylinder cars.  Last

                             year Kip Lee’s MG Midget won the Peoples’ Choice Trophy.

 

October 21 Sun – Tentative schedule for “Scatter Rally” TBA
