PIG ROAST AND WEDDING

Bill Moseley

Pensacola, Florida - Sunday, July 22 - Mike Darby, South Alabama British Car Club President, summed up the eleventh annual summer party in his brief and concise British writing style. I quote:

The summer party gets better and better. What a huge turnout from three clubs

and a wedding party. A superb air-conditioned car collection, lots of visiting British

cars, even a bushwhacker machine - what more could anyone want? Oh, and I almost forgot

- Lots of delicious food. Thanks Jeanne and Tom.

Mike aptly described Tom and Jeanne Schmitz’s hospitality in a few well-selected words. 107 people turned out for the 11th Annual Joint British Car Clubs Picnic and Pig Roast and were witnesses to Keith Sanders and Beth Messick’s wedding. The wedding, which had a Hawaiian theme, took place on Tom and Jeanne’s lawn next to the water. Following the wedding, members and guests enjoyed the roast pig, a multitude of side dishes, and desserts. Keith had set up a Bushwhacker machine, which met with great delight. Cutting the wedding cake and other special cakes followed this. No one went home hungry.

Rodney McDonald and Richard Cunningham set up the Play Station in the car collection garage for auto racing games and another place to relax and beat the heat in the air conditioning.

While the usual July weather was hot, it was tempered by a nice breeze around the pool, out on the boathouse over the water and under the shade of several tents.

Tom and Jeanne very much appreciate all the help by many of the Ladies of the Clubs who left the house spotless after the festivities.

The day after the wedding, Keith and Beth left for a honeymoon that included the “C Event of Brutal Aggressives MK XXVII” at the Holiday Inn – Staunton Golf and Conference Center, Staunton, VA. Keith is the Chairman of the American MG-C Register and host of the event. Beth was immersed in British Car events from the wedding right through the honeymoon - A good start for the new wife of a British car fanatic. Keith has even started her out with a bright red MGB roadster.

Special notes - BRITS ON THE RIVER, Vidalia, LA (Natchez, MS) British Car Show, September 28-29:

The hotel and the show are directly across the Mississippi river from Natchez, MS.  The show is at Riverview RV Park that is next to the hotel.  There is a welcome party at the RV park on Friday evening and the show on Saturday is being held in conjunction with the Jim Bowie Festival and Barbeque Duel at the RV Park - Lots of great barbeque to sample.

During the day on Saturday, some of the folks take a short trip over to Natchez for antiquing or to visits one or more of the antebellum mansions open to tours.

On Saturday night, the PBCA members attending the show usually have dinner as a group at one of the many great restaurants in Natchez.

This is always one of the better British Car Shows of the season.  The EMC folks always have a good turnout at both the PBCA show and the SABCC show.   We have a good number of PBCA members planning to go to this show.  We will have a group going from Pensacola and Lillian on Friday morning.  Email or call Tom, 251 961-7171, if you have questions or would like more information about the show and the weekend.
